Dear Fellow Tea Party & Townhall Americans:

The passage of the 16th Amendment to the Constitution in 1913 allowed, for the first time, the imposition of a DIRECT tax by the Federal Government on the American People in the form of the Federal Income Tax. Before the 16th, Article 1, Section 9, Paragraph 4 (1-9-4) of the Constitution prohibited direct taxes unless (quoting 1-9-4) ".... in Proportion to the Census or Enumeration herein before directed to be taken."

What the Census requirement meant is that if New York, for example, had twice the population of New Jersey, New York would incur twice the amount of tax.

I believe that this direct taxing power has set the stage for the horrible level of spending that we are facing today. Bringing the Federal Government back under the control of the Constitution as originally written will require ending this DIRECT taxing power by repealing the 16th Amendment.

The replacement for the Income Tax will be the CONSTITUTIONAL SUPPORT TAX (the CST). Please go to the STATE GROUPS listing on the TAX DAY TEA PARTY Home Page. In the DISCUSSION FORUM section of any State, pick REAL FEDERAL TAX REFORM WORTHY OF THE TEA PARTY/TOWNHALL MOVEMENT. A full detail explanation of how the CST will work is provided here.

Many people understandably believe that America's future is hanging in the balance. I believe that ending the Federal Income Tax and implementing the CST is a crucial step in bringing control of the Federal Government back into the hands of We The People.
