The Patriot Caucus of Texas

There has been a major shift in plans with the recent announcement of the nationwide Tax Day Tea Party in Washington, D.C. and the new Patriot Caucus.

This page will soon host information on buses & hotels for the march on Washington. It will also contain information about the Patriot Caucus and the statewide delegation.

NOTE: We understand there are ALA, 9/12, TPP, Resistnet, icaucus, CC2009 and other organizations across the state. The Patriot Caucus is not in place to duplicate or replace any existing efforts.

Friends — The amendment to the Texas constitution to reform eminent domain adopted last November was a watered down reform. Some of the people trying to reform eminent domain were so unhappy they opposed it. One such person is Wright Gore whose family fought at considerable expense in time and dollars the taking of their waterfront property in Freeport. They won that fight and Wright has dedicated himself to preventing this from happening to others. I am happy to work with Wright to close the door in Texas on abusive use of eminent domain.

Please visit the website of the Texas Eminent Domain Reform Association, print out the resolution that will close the final loophole in the law and submit it at your precinct convention after the polls close at 7 PM on Tuesday, March 2. We need to amend the Texas constitution one more time on this matter.

Take the resolution to you precinct convention:

PLEASE forward to your list. Thanks.

BACKGROUND...
The Freeport case is the Texas version of the infamous Kelo case, in which the US Supreme Court approved a city taking Ms. Kelo's home to make available to a large nearby business property owner with the hope it would lead to more jobs and higher tax revenues (the company ultimately decided to turn down the opportunity).

In the Freeport case the property owners were finally successful in defending themselves.

Bulldozed is the book that tells the tale:

A terrific introduction to the eminent domain battle. The story of Freeport, Texas in the context of the pre and post "Kelo" world is both a fast yet intimate look at the issue that has sparked so much debate. I found the authors presentation of the "real life characters" in this drama compelling. Carla Main's narrative is direct and snappy and her historical analysis interesting without being overly theoretical. This is far from a comprehensive look at the lega

The following link provides a comparison between the so-called 'Conservative Candidates' and their position on illegal immigration and enforcement of our immigration laws. I recommend that anyone who hasn't already voted early in Texas, visit the numbersusa.org comparison of the candidates before they visit the polls on Tuesday. This Primary election may be the most important vote you'll make as a Texan.

Another great interview with Judge Napolitano and Debra Medina!
Glenn Beck did not change the Judge's mind about Debra, and I trust the Judge more than I do Beck! Enjoy!!!

Politics is the only endeavor undertaken by humans where 'experience' and 'longevity' are not necessarily recommendations that voters can or should appreciate. Indeed, if we are to believe the intent of the founding fathers to establish a government of the people, by the people and for the people, we likewise must accept their vision of citizen legislators who serve briefly, and then return to private life. If we allow ourselves to fall pray to the assertion that 'career politicians' are in any way a good, then we are hard pressed to understand why America's founders didn't simply create a new monarchy, with fiefdoms. Anyone whose income and prestige is derived from a political career, cannot set aside self interest, or self service, otherwise the concept of a 'career in politics' is meaningless. No elected official should serve so long as to become a power broker, nor should any elected official remain in office long enough to retire on a tax payer pension. Arguably, Texas has it just about right with it's time limited legislative sessions that prevent these busy body politicians with nothing better to do than think up new laws and regulations from doing more damage than they already do. If politicians truly seek to serve the public good, they must realize that there are other citizens willing and capable of taking their place, and this is the change that all of us can support. Only self interest, ego and arrogance motivates anyone to pursue a career in politics. When politicians 'stake out an office' and hold it, they deny another worthy citizen, a citizen with vision, ideas, and objectives equally worthy, the opportunity to serve. Three terms in the House and two terms in the Senate is enough for anyone. It's dangerously misguided to suggest that citizens benefit from retaining long serving, self serving bureaucrats who quickly lose touch with who they are and who they were elected to serve.
