of the Tea Parties?

The "National Tea Party Convention" was a success, as a gathering of Tea Party activists that attended seminars on promoting their political ideas and as a Media event as Sarah Palin's Keynote Speech was broadcast live on a Super Bowl weekend Saturday night on CNN, Fox Cable News and MSNBC and there were discussions of it on all the Sunday morning political discussion programs.

There was some criticism of the organiser of the convention, Nashville attorney Judson Phillips, who conceived the event as a "for profit" venture in contrast to the dominant political parties that use corporate donations to fund their events. The "American Liberty Alliance" and "National Precinct Alliance" withdrew from the convention, also two featured speakers, Congressional Representatives Michele Bachman (R-Minn) and Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn) cancelled their appearances when they found out that Sarah Palin was being paid $100,000 for speaking.

Sarah Palin decided to participate despite the controversy as she did not want to disappoint the attendees. "As with all grass-roots efforts, the nature of this movement means that some of the debates are loud and the organization is messier than that of a polished, controlled machine. Legitimate disagreements take place about tone and tatics. That's OK, because this movement is about bigger things than politics and organizers."

Early in her Keynote Speech Sarah Palin said "The Current form of this movement is fresh and young and fragile. Let us not get bogged down in small squabbles. Let us get caught up in the big ideas."

Sarah Palin urged the Tea Party movement and the Republican Party establishment to work together to elect conservatives. "The Republican Party would be really smart to try and adsorb as much as possible of the Tea Party movement as possible." to the enthusiastic applause of the 1,100 in the banquet room.

At one of the convention seminars the activists discussed how to get behind conservative candidates early in primaries to avoid losses by splitting the usual Republican voters.

Convention attendees were urged not to spend their money on traveling to Tea Party rallies in 2010 and to support political candidates instead.
